Emmy dodjela: Handmaid’s Tale i Big Little Lies odnijeli najviše nagrada, Veep opet viktoriozan

Najvažnija vijest večeri je Elisabeth Moss koja, nakon devet nominacija skupljenih u prethodnih sedam godina, konačno zasluženo odnosi kući Emmy najbolje glavne dramske glumice za svoju ulogu Offred u distopiji The Handmaid’s Tale. Njezina serija je također pobijedila i u kategoriji najbolje drame što je potom učinilo Hulu prvim streaming servisom koji je odnio nagradu za najprestižniju Emmy kategoriju, dok je Reed Morano proglašena najboljom režiserkom za svoj rad na prvoj epizodi Handmaid’sa čime je postala prva žena koja je osvojila tu nagradu od 1995. Slavila je i Alexis Bledel u gostujućoj ulozi, a posebno emotivan nastup je imala Ann Dowd kad je pokupila svoj Emmy za ulogu Ujne Lydije.

Za najboljeg glumca u drami je zasluženo proglašen Sterling K. Brown za This Is Us kojemu je ovo druga pobjeda nakon prošlogodišnjeg osvajanja Emmyja za najboljeg glumca u prvoj sezoni mini-serije American Crime Story. U kategoriji komedije je najviše slavio Veep kojemu je ovo treća pobjeda za redom, a glavna glumica Julia Louis-Dreyfus je bez problema zaslužila još jednu pobjedu čineći je dobitnicom najviše Emmy nagrada za redom. Što se tiče Donalda Glovera, on je nagrađen za glavnu ulogu u svom projektu Atlanta te također osvojio nagradu za najbolju režiju u komediji i postao prvi Afroamerikanac s pobjedom u toj kategoriji.

Big Little Lies je izdominirao kategorijom mini-serije gdje su svoje Emmyje odnijeli Nicole Kidman, Alexander Skarsgård i Laura Dern, a proglašen je i najbolje režiranom mini-serijom. Treća sezona Farga i izvrsni Murphyjev FEUD su ostali u potpunosti ignorirani, zajedno s Carrie Coon, Jessicom Lange i Susan Sarandon, a svoje nagrade je ipak pokupio Black Mirror za onu fantastičnu epizodu San Junipero. Iznenađenje večeri je bila pobjeda Riza Ahmeda, prvog Azijata kao pobjednika neke glumačke kategorije, za prošloljetni The Night Of jer smo pretpostavljali da se nitko neće ni sjetiti te godinu dana stare mini-serije, a istu reakciju je proizvelo i proglašenje Master of None najbolje napisanom komedijom što Lenu Waithe čini prvom Afroamerikankom s pobjedom u toj kategoriji.
